Visit A Museum

Visit a museum
browse (1 / 5)

I distinctly remember going to visit the museum in primary school, needless to say it was not easily forgetable ,not that i'd want to forget of course. No way!I was fascinated by it. Here are these life like creatures as opposed to the studying of history, animals, culture etc out of a book. What a change, a pleasant change...no textbooks needed. I recall completely relating to the 'museum visiting' when reading Catcher in the Rye years later. There are of course different kinds of museums all keeping the artifacts for their own unique cause. A couple woth mentioning are the Addington Hospital Centenary Museum,Durban Cultural Centre/ Durban Cultural & Documentation Centre, Killie Campbell Museum and the Kwa Muhle Museum.

However the closest to my high school and primary school experiences [which have clearly made an impact since i dont remember much else during those periods] in museums would have to be the Durban Natural Science Museum.Man, those were some good times! [warning;not for the faint hearted, this kid at school with me literally shat his pants on entering a certain room,hehe-as i said-good times]. Ok, so the museums mantra is 'A museum about the earth,it's history and life on earth, both past and present'.oooh la la...so much to see ,hmmmm..ok the mummy of Peten-Amen who lived in Egypt 2300 years ago, skeletal figure of the extinct Dodo, the P A Clancey Gallery [which is basically a collection of southern African birds realistically displayed], you can even listen to bird calls. When break time comes and the hunger binge kicks in,you need'nt worry folks, you wont have to venture far, they have their own coffee shop, The Waterhole [note to self-interesting surroundings too...hehe...swamplike] The Kwanunu insect arcade holds some of the 750 000 identified species of insects on earth today....eeeek. The Hall of Earth Sciences Gallery has a HUGE life sized reconstruction of the extinct dinosaur Tyrannosaurus rex. Aha. Yep.... theres still loads more...but you got to go and check it out for yourself.
