Visit the brew / beer route
browse (1 / 5)

The Kwazulu-Natal province has a fantastic beer route that will have you drink many different brands of beer throughout the day, each with its own distinct flavour. Whilst on your route, enjoy the magnificence of the Zulu Kingdom, explore the wonders of home-brewed beer, enjoy the nice smaller breweries in the province, and find the elite taste of that special beer made just for you.

Start off your beer route at the province’s capital Durban, and go see the Pavilion shopping centre in the suburb of Westville. The Firkin Hophouse Brewery in the Pavilion offers many kinds of different types of beer, brewed right on the premises for your delight. Brewing kettles are a plenty, and forms part of this unique pub’s style and décor, whilst a full tour and explanation of the brewing process is readily available at your request. If you want a more holistic brewing experience at one of the large breweries in the province, the Beer Route includes a special visit to the South African Brewers (SAB), where you’ll grow accustomed the world’s third largest brewery. Additionally, a visit to the Congella Brewery will give you unique insight into the making of ‘sorghum beer’, which is a traditional African beer made from wheat and maize.

Go to the lovely town of Wartburg that was originally founded by German settlers, or take pride in the IJuba-United National Breweries in Dundee, the delightful farmer’s Brewery in Hattingspruit, not to mention the Shongweni Brewery in the Valley of a 1 000 Hills.
