The Mitchell Park Zoo in the Kwazulu-Natal province is unique in its own right, and will make a dream holiday trip for kids and adults alike. Sure, it’s not Disney World, but the variety of fun and entertainment provided by the park will persuade you to stay just that little longer. Every day of the year could feel like a holiday, especially if you make your way to Mitchell Park.

The park is named after Sir Charles Bullen Hugh Mitchell, who originally established the park during the early half of the century as an ostrich farm. Since then the farm has been transformed into a zoo, hosting a variety of animals and species that once roamed freely in this natural wonderland of the Kwazulu-Natal province. Today Mitchell Park offers a whole host of animals and birds for you to see, including huge gaping crocodiles, raccoons, cranes, flamingoes, wallabies, monkeys and tortoises. There is even a walk-through aviary that will allow you to get close and personal with many of the beautiful bird varieties on display.

Of course, a zoo is not a zoo if it does not cater for children. A sand-filled playground has been constructed to allow small children to play on jungle gyms, swings, slides and other fun equipment, whilst the parent may sit down and relax amongst nestled trees and flowerbeds while enjoying a meal at the Blue Zoo tea garden. There are carefully tended lawns that are perfect for family picnics, and even skottle braais are allowed. So come down to the Mitchell Park for valued entertainment for the whole family!
