Take A Walk In The Botanical Gardens

Take a walk in the Botanical Gardens
browse (1 / 6)

When you're a kid you just want an endless garden, just seems to go on forever, with no space, no limits an endless jungle for you and your friends to play in. I always loved the 'secret garden’, running around no beginning, no end just boundless fun filled with opportunity to let the imagination run wild, run a muck and never return, But alas we grow up you see the walls, fences that enclose one and the imagination quietens down only to resurface at the most inopportune moments...those days were fun, packaged with a ribbon, packaged in blue....when you get older you need bigger gardens, because the ones that seemed huge before have now changed in your minds eye and are a little smaller then what they appeared to be. The great thing is that once you enter a great big garden again the child in you reawakens and wants to play....its refreshing, its rewarding, its reflecting warm nostalgia if you will.

The Durban Botanical Gardens comes with high recommendation. It’s world famous for the original specimens of Encephalartos woodii, a cycad that is still acknowledged as probably the rarest plant in the world. The Botanical Gardens were founded in 1849 [back in colonial times] and was originally used for the trial and introducing of commercial crops which were of potential use. For those of the real flora and fauna know alls you should inquire about their mission statement.

Pop off to the charity tea garden for a light lunch, organise a guided tour, visit the fresh herb garden or a garden for the blind. The Gardens hold a variety of sub-tropical trees, palms and orchids. Hehe, plants from all over the world come together in this venue, namely, African, Asian and American trees. There's loads, loads, loads to see and view or talk about amidst the lush vegetation.
