Sani Pass
If you want to get into the Lesotho region, travelers should definately take the spectacular Sani Pass mountain road, a well-known intro point from the Kwazulu Natal Drakensburg into Lesotho. The scenery up the road is truly breathtaking, with not only the omniscience Southern Drakensburg keeping you company, but the growing Northern mountains of Lesotho an impressive scenic view as well.
Don’t be brave and attempt Sani Pass with your motorcar. Many have tried and failed, and in bad weather you will get stuck no doubt. A 4X4 vehicle is necessary for this road, but once you get going, you will find a reward greater than the effort. Only prepare for changeability of the weather. You might be cruising up the pass in sunshine one moment, but minutes later you’ll find torrential rain hampering your progress! So watch out.
Once you’ve reached the summit of Sani Pass, have lunch at the nearby pub (the highest pub in Southern Africa), and snag a few beers in between. You might even try accommodation at the Sani Lodge or the Sani Pass Hotel. Both have decent and comfortable lodgings, whilst the Sani Top Chalet offers some of those more self-catering needs.
