Mkhuze Reserve lacks nothing as far as game is concerned, except perhaps lion. But the buck and other animals make up for this. The vegetation is very thick at this time and visibility is limited, but enough animals come onto the road, or are visible from the hides to make this a very enjoyable venue. Birds are prolific and varied, from raptors to water birds, to lbj's. Rhino, wild dogs, hippo, snakes.... the list is endless and we saw it all in one week.
Elephant need to be approached with extreme caution as we and the maintenance staff were charged on separate occasions.
The bungalows, albeit somewhat in need of an upgrade, are well appointed with TV's and all necessary kitchen amenities, including a microwave. Mosquito nets are supplied, but mosquitoes are a problem both inside and outside. Fortunately at this time of the year malaria is not prevalent, but they are pesty.
The tented camp looks lovely and tents are tucked away in the bush a little further away from the boundary fence which probably gives one more of a bush experience without the noise of the neighbouring farms.
There is also a large pool available to the guests, which is refreshing on a hot day and with few people in the camp ( outside of school holidays), most areas, including the picnic spots, are underutilised.
The shop has very limited supplies so most food stuff needs to be brought in. One can buy beer and colddrinks and only one variety of red wine. The better option for food is Rhino-Dine-O, the take away shop which supplies delicious food inexpensively.
All in all we had a delightful stay and will definitely return.
