Right in the heart of the Midlands Meander, on the Umgeni River, is the beautiful Midmar Dam. Midmar Resort and Nature Reserve is a stimulating family destination with plenty of outside action and leisure facilities. It offers a large expanse of fresh water, a widespread meandering shoreline, vast grasslands and is easily accessible. Midmar is situated in close proximity to Pietermaritzburg and Howick and is an imperative part of the Midlands Meander tourist route. The wildlife park features an assortment of small game and antelope species.

Many types of water sports can be enjoyed at Midmar. It is particularly popular during weekends and peak periods. Canoes, windsurfers, yachts and bicycles are available for hire and tours and sunset cruises can be arranged. Framed by water and sky, visitors can enjoy relaxing barbecue’s in the stunning picnic spots found all around and along the dam.

Accommodation at Midmar Camp consists of:

48 individual chalets and is able to sleep 171 people comfortably. There are 14 twin chalets, 13 four-bed chalets with two bedrooms, two six-bed chalets each with three bedrooms and three five-bed chalets with two bedrooms. Each chalet includes a lounge/dining room, fully operational kitchen and barbecue amenities. Provisions have been made for those guests who require disabled assistance; one chalet has been specifically outfitted for this purpose. Each chalet has DSTV.

Midmar Camp has sixteen four-bed country cabins with shared ablution blocks.

There are also wonderful camping facilities available at Midmar Camp.

All campsites are equipped with communal cold water taps and easy access barbecue facilities, firewood and charcoal can be purchased on the premises. The modern ablution amenities host hot water baths and showers, flush toilets, basic laundry facilities and dish washing area.
