Cathedral Peak - Didima Camp

Cathedral Peak - Didima Camp

In appreciation of its inspiring culture and unsurpassed splendor, the Majestic Drakensberg mountain range has taken its legitimate spot on the global tourism stage as a World Heritage Site. Nestled in this grand ambiance lies Cathedral Peak - a dramatically delightful mountain paradise.

Neighboring the upper Thukela region in the north and east with Monk's Cowl in the south and Lesotho in the west, this section of the Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Park is 32 000 hectares in magnitude. Embracing the superb Didima Valley with its many illustrations of San Rock artwork, this is hiking heaven.

Behold the magnificence of the Ukhahlamba Mountains whilst hiking one of the various trails, offering routes that drift from a few hours to several days of breathtaking mountaineering. A broad choice of plants and animals can be sighted whilst hiking in the comprehensive grasslands and woodland patches distinctive of this region of "the Berg". Overhead, one can see the graceful flight of a Bearded vulture, while Malachite sunlight birds flicker from protea to protea, a loud troop of baboons bark at the intruders in their neighborhood and a household of Mountain reedbuck exhibit their light-colored tails as they race up an adjoining rise.

Mountain streams with rock pools present excellent swimming opportunities for the sun soaker's and for those less physical guests, a spectacular drive up Mike's Pass to the top of the little Berg near the head of Didima Gorge presents a panoramic picture of the chief escarpment and adjoining lowlands.

Guests can also visit the Didima San art interpretive centre, offering intriguing insights into the mysterious art and culture of the San. The lavish Didima Camp at Cathedral Peak has been themed and furnished around the art & culture of the San folk.

"I thought it might be useful if I gave you feedback direct ? we did love staying at Didima. Friendly staff, great setting and the cottages were well equipped and well presented made for a romantic and relaxing break in the most amazing location. The feedback that you may wish to act on though is that the unit we were in, which I suspect applied to all of the others, was incredibly musty ? I am asthmatic and it made me quite ill over the time we were staying there. I realise this is a function of cleaning and not being able to leave windows open because of the baboons, however there are a number of quick and easy solutions to this problem and I am just not sure how aware the Camp managers are of the issue so that it can be dealt with. We really enjoyed staying there and would definitely love to come back again but I am a little wary of having to experience the rooms again ? which is a real shame. Kind regards, Shannon "
