In the midst of the Tugela and Amatikulu River mouths, on the Indian Ocean coastline in the Northern KwaZulu-Natal, is Amatikulu Nature Reserve. Here at this lovely and tranquil seaside oasis, visitors can be lucky enough to spot wildlife feeding on the forested dunescape overlooking the ocean.
The forested grasslands and rivers invite many intriguing bird life, including the scarce African Finfoot as well as the resident giraffes, zebra, water buck and smaller antelope herds that graze in the reserve. High up in the whale and game watching tower, guests can watch the magnificent whales that frequently visit this neighborhood of the ocean and spot the wildlife that nourish themselves on the wooded dunes.
Hiking, Game drives, 4x4 Trails, canoing and surf angling are amongst some of the favorite activities that guests indulge in whilst leisurely investigating this beautiful region. Fishing in the estuary is most superior and provides immense enjoyment for the entire family.
Amatigulu Tented Camp is hidden away in this thriving maritime woodland just above the calm estuary of the Matigulu River, about 100km north from Durban. Raised on wooded platforms, Amatikulu Tented Camp overlooks the Amatikulu River with breathtaking views of the Indian ocean.
Amatikulu Tented Camp offers comfortable self catering
accommodation in six spacious 2-bed safari-style tents with the best panorama over the seaside dunes and estuary of the Matigulu River to the ocean and are serviced daily and equipped to rest camp standards. Amatikulu Tented Camp also provides six . Five campsites, accommodating up to 5 people are also offered with excellent camping amenities.
Linked to the tents by a boardwalk is a communal ablution block that has showers, toilets and hand basins with hot and cold water. The dining area is furnished with tables and benches and the Camp's kitchen is fitted with a fridge, freezer and gas stove, including a decent supply of crockery and cutlery. Food can prepared in the kitchen or cooked at the barbecue area specially provided.

Special Precautions:
As crocodiles and bilharzia are found in the rivers, visitors are advised not to swim in the rivers or drink the river water and do so at their own risk.
Gingingdlovu is the nearest town which is 15 kms away.

Take the N2 north from Durban and take the Nyoni off-ramp, turn right over the highway and proceed 3kms to the reserves gate
