The Haven Horse Safaris

The Haven Horse Safaris was established in the Cwebe Dwesa Reserve in 2006. We offer riding holidays that are hard to beat. Ride over 35km of unspoilt, uninhabited beaches and through the second largest intact coastal forest in South Africa. The scenery is unparallaled with cliffs that plumet to the sea below, open grasslands and wide beaches bisected by numerous rivers and valleys. All rides are subject to tides, seasons, availablilty and the discretion of the guide. The reserve includes the coastline where rhino and buffalo are often seen walking along deserted beaches and wading through the surf. This makes for easy tracking and excellent sightings.

NATURAL HORSEMANSHIP

We place great value on the condition and happiness of our horses. All horses are groomed and exercised daily following a set routine. They roam the entire reserve freely at night in a single herd and return in the morning for their feeding. No stables, no paddocks. Alternative therapies and natural medicines are used as much as possible and all horses run barefoot and are never shod. We train our horses in Western and English riding styles and our horse food is sponsored by Equi-Feeds. Leaders in horse nutrition in South Africa.

THE RIDES

The rides at The Haven Horse Safaris cater for all levels of riding ability and are a great way to experince the unique forest, beach and game of the world renowned Wild Coast. Rides are subject to tides, season, weather and the discretion of the guide.

THE HORSES

All our horses are boerperd / boerperd x geldings originating from the Eastern Cape highlands. They range in height from 14 - 15.2 hands and are hardy, reliable and well-trained horses, suitable for all riders. All horses are unshod following a natural approach to horsemanship. They are trained in both English and Western, however we only use Trail Ranger western style saddles ensuring a comfortable ride for both horse and rider.
