About Umdloti Beach
browse (1 / 4)

Umdloti Beach is located on the Dolphin Coast in The Zulu Kingdom 25km north of Durban between Umhlanga Rocks and Ballito. Umdloti Beach is a quaint secluded village on the warm Indian Ocean. Umdloti beach is famous for its awesome beaches and the dolphins, which often play in the surf. There are about 900 resident dolphins in the area with this number increasing to over 16,000 during the sardine run (July/August). Humpback and Southern Right whales are plentiful during the calving season from July to November.

Mussels and oysters are plentiful on the rocks off North Beach Road, at Selection Beach and at the far end of South Beach Road plus there are lots of crayfish to be found too. Umdloti is a coastal conservancy, so respect the fact that and when fishing or harvesting from the rocks stick to the rules and have the appropriate permits. Flanked by the beach, but built in and surrounded by natural indigenous bush the forest starts just above these beautiful flowering dunes with a maze of scrambling, hardy, salt tolerant flowering shrubs and creepers. Enjoy delicious Apricots if you can get them before the Vervet Monkeys.
