The Lodge's name “Ingwenya” derives from the Zulu word for crocodile. It was quite logical to choose a name for our lodge indigenous to Zululand, in this first world heritage site of South Africa.
Ingwenya Lodge is situated on the "outskirts" of the residential area of St Lucia. The property borders the nature reserve with a view of both the sea and the estuary, a very unique privilege in St Lucia.
The surroundings are very peaceful and hippos graze often at the entrance of the Lodge during the night. Small game frequently wanders on the premises and a rumor of a leopard in the area has been going around.
Ingwenya Lodge offers accommodation in self catering units which are named after the five feeder rivers of the St Lucia estuary: Mpate-, Nyalazi-, Hluhluwe-, Mzinene-, and Mkuze River and the Mfolozi that flows out to sea very close to the St Lucia estuary.
Facilities at Ingwenya Lodge includes air conditioning, new swimming pool, DSTV (bring your own smartcard), safe, and additional freezing facilities. Units are serviced daily.
Ingwenya Lodge can provide accommodation and conference facilities for up to 18 people. Lots of outdoor activities available like deep-sea-fishing, tours to game reserves, boat trips on the estuary, whale watching, turtle tours, kayak safaris and a visit to the crocodile centre etc.
Come and enjoy your holiday at Ingwenya Lodge – “Away from the rush!”
Your hosts are Barend en Madeleine Harmse.
