2nd Breath Scuba

2nd Breath Scuba

Margate is adjacent to two of the world's premier dive locations, namely Protea Bank and Aliwal Shoal, with sea temperature 22+ degrees Celcius. Both locations offer a dozen or more individual dive sites each. All diving is conducted from boats. Besides conducting training dives, 2nd Breath Scuba Diving offers charters for the experienced certified diver at both locations.

Aliwal is eminently suitable for novice divers, with a number of sites at only 10-12 metres deep. Besides the numerous colourful reef inhabitants including pretty corals, it is not unusual to see the likes of manta and stingrays. For more experienced divers there are 18+ metre deep sites where large potato bass and sharks can be seen. Pods of dolphins are often spotted, if not during the dive then from the boat. In addition there are two diveable shipwrecks just off the Shoal.

Protea Banks is definitely for the advanced diver and adrenaline junky. Depths are 30+ metres, and drift diving is the norm given the prevailing current. This is where you see the big stuff from large turtles, tuna, sailfish to sharks and even whales. There are a number of other superb dive locations locally. To briefly name but a few: Cowrie Reef / Landers Reef out of Park Rynie, Adda Reef / Bo Boyi Reef / Potato Reef and Deep Salmon out of Margate.

Discounts available on Courses and Equipment purchases!

We are the only ones on the South Coast with a boat out to sea diving at night! Feeling a bit jaded with normal daytime diving? Ever wondered what's out and about underwater when the sun sets? Well, here's your chance to find out!

Course goals

The objectives of the course are:

To develop your theoretical knowledge of night diving.

To increase your diving motor-skills ability.

To enable you to organise and safely conduct night dives.

To improve your diving ability and provide you with additional supervised

experience.

Course structure.

You get a manual to read and keep.

We'll have some discussions during the day, essentially covering:

The appeal of night diving and night diving activities.

Night diving equipment.

Planning night dives.

Reacting properly to special night diving situations.

Night diving technique.

Then we'll launch the boat 'round about 5.30pm, while it's still light, for our first two sea dives. By the time we reach the dive site and kit up, it'll be dark and we can go dive!.

Same thing on Night #2, except we only need to do one more dive to complete the Specialty!

Some of the stuff we'll do on the dives:

Communicate using hand signals and dive light while night diving.

Compass navigation to a predetermined location and return on a reciprocal course.

Identify nocturnal aquatic life.

Remain in a stationary position on the bottom for three minutes with no dive lights on.
