Protea Hotel Imvubu lodge, meaning hippo in Zulu, was inspired by the famous "Huberta the Hippo" who journeyed from Zululand to East London. Tucked away in the in the lush greenbelt zone of Richards Bay, we are adjacent to the scenic Lake Menywa and the unspoilt beaches of the Indian Ocean.
The accommodation at the Protea Hotel Imvubu Lodge consists of luxurious one and two bedroom fully serviced chalets, both self-catering and non self-catering. The superior self catering chalets can sleep 2 people and deluxe chalets can accommodate up to 5 people. All our self-catering chalets are fully equipped with everything you need for a well-deserved break or just a good nights rest when you are in town on business. These pristine surroundings make bird watching an extraordinary experience - a must for all nature lovers.

We cater for a variety of functions including conferences, product launches, presentations and weddings. The Conference Centre is technologically advanced, fully air-conditioned, with 5 small breakaway rooms and an entertainment deck overlooking Lake Menywa with a fully licensed bar.

The 60-seater restaurant is 300 square meters in extent, has stylist timber furnishings and a spectacular view over Lake Menywa. The restaurant affords guests an opportunity to experience an unforgettable breakfast, lunch or dinner. Apart from being eco-sensitive, the restaurant is also conscious of nutrition and planning of the meals on the menu. International Executive Chef, Austean Phiri, prepares all the meals and lends his own enchantment to these and other exotic meals.
