Pongola
Pongola is a small town located in the North of KZN. It’s superb location makes it a popular choice as a holiday stopover, or destination. From here, you have easy access to some of South Africa’s best attractions. This town is often a stopover en route to the coast, or the Kruger National park, and as a result, many great holiday accommodations are available.
Pongola has an impressive game lodge that attracts many visitors to the town. The lodge was established in 1894, and to this day, it still occupies the same land on a private farm. Pongola Game Reserve is well worth a visit and guests can expect to see four of the Big Five within our grounds. At the Pongola Game Reserve, the river forms the basis for much of the animal life that surrounds it. There are crocodiles, and other aquatic animals, as well as the wildlife that gathers on the banks at sunset. We also boast a wide variety of birdlife, with over 350 species!
If you are looking for some activity during the days, there is an excellent 9 hole golf course in the area. If you enjoy fishing then you are luck, the nearby Jozini Dam makes for an excellent day trip with some rewarding catches available. Depending on what kind of accommodation you choose, there a variety of activities and outings that the lodges and hotels can arrange. Some have traditional Zulu dancing in the evenings.
