If you want to meander through the Natal, there are many interesting towns stretching from the foothills of the Drakensberg to the coast in the east. The Dargle Valley and conservancy area of the Southern Drakensberg has something for the senses on all levels. Look up to see a variety of bird species and across the horizon the see waterfalls, river gorges, grassland, indigenous forest, wild flowers and wetlands at various points of your trip.
The jewel of KwaZulu-Natal is Greytown which is a history excursion boasting buildings from 1850, scenic drives and Boer history. The English country village of Hilton with its attractive sense of history originated in the purchase of a large portion of the farm Ongegund and is ten kilometres from Pietermaritzburg which is known as "The Last Outpost of the British Empire" and is known for its boarding schools and colonial ambience. Not forgetting the Zulu culture in the Southern Midlands, Ixopo is the main area or sugar farming and forestry area. Go hunting for a small blue butterfly lives in the mist belt forests and flat-topped kloof in Karkloof. The Karkloof blue Orachrysops ariadne can be spotted fluttering through the hills that stretch for over 50 kilometres between Rietvlei, Curry’s Post and Howick. The Midlands Meander may be the best world wander.
