Spioenkop Wildlife Park is ideally situated 32km south of Ladysmith. At this amazing mountain resort, guests can gasp the breathing views of the Spioenkop Mountains as it overlooks the generous thorn savanna and serene waters of the Spioenkop Dam. Historic events took place at the mountain, as this was the scene of the famous Battle of Spioenkop where the British settlers suffered one of the worst defeats by the Boers during the Anglo Boer War.
This battlefield site now offers incredible views to visitors. Spioenkop Dam is an exceptional venue for water activities located in a picturesque game-reserve setting.
Whilst leisurely investigating this outstanding region guests have the opportunity to spot wildlife such as white rhino, giraffe, zebra and a variety of antelope. Bird viewing is highly recommended, as there is an abundance of bird life in the vicinity of the reserve. Provided is a vulture hide which offers close up views of these spectacular birds. Exhilarating trails offered at the camp include The Discovery Trail that is split into 3 km and 6 km cycles. Picnicking at one of the well-maintained picnic sites is a must; these sites are situated all around the dam shore providing panoramic views whilst relaxing.
Accommodation at Spioenkop consists of:
Tented camps that are located on the slopes of the Spioenkop Mountain, which provide excellent views of the waterhole. These tents are equipped with a stone lounge, bar, dining facility. The kitchen that consists of gas fridge and stove are separately situated.
Three six-bed chalets hosting three bedrooms, bathroom, lounge/dining room, kitchen and barbecue facilities. Camping is also available.
The reserve also offers a wide range of recreational opportunities to the guests at the reserve. Power boating is by far one of the most enjoyable activities that visitors participate in, another water sport offered at the reserve is jet skis, and this sport is permitted however they are restricted towards the northern area of the boat club. Yacht racing is also popular due to the fact that visitors practice yachting during calm weather conditions.
