Imfolozi Reviews

Imfolozi stay
Our accommodation was a bit cramped being 3 adults in a 2 bed chalet but otherwise comfortable, clean and well serviced. There was a lot of veld burning going on which was not so nice.
Enjoyed it otherwise.

We stayed in the newly renovated chalets and were very pleased.
We stayed in the newly renovated chalets and were very pleased, on the whole, with the accommodation. There are little things that can be improved such as window fittings which either don’t close or open properly. We would appreciate a lock on the front door.

The tarmac road between Hluhluwe and Imfolozi as well as inside Imfolozi,is appalling, especially for the driver whose full attention is on the road, being unable to scan the bush for animals. Some of the potholes are dangerously deep.

This is probably the 15th time I have visited Imfolozi and the fact that I come back from Cape Town so often speaks for itself.

Masinda in Umfolozi Game Park
The accommodation was okay. The bedrooms could have done with a good vacuuming. We were not informed that the electricity was turned off at 2200hrs daily so battled in the dark and suffered in the heat without the ceiling fans. Resident staff were very helpful and courteous. Condition of the roads has seriously deteriorated and public toilets at picnic sited were disgusting. Please advise future visitors accordingly.

problems with the power
Accommodation was very neat and nice - I really enjoy it. we had privicy, very quiet and hyenas and wild dogs were in close distance.
Problem what i have experience was with fridge. Electricity went off @22h00 and came back @7h00. We came back late, after 19h00, cook the dinner and put food in the fridge, water in freezer. In the morning water was warm, as well as all food in the fridge. We were leaving @5h00 am and it was no way that we can organise something else. Gas stove and shower were lovely but spoilt food was not great. We were not inform in advance maybe we could made a plan. Also mosquito protections plugs we could not use.

Lovely lovely holiday!
My family and I had a lovely stay at Mpila reserve, in the 2 bed chalets. (We had 2 x 2 bed chalets between 4 people).
The facilities and equipment provided were very good, with attention to every detail.
We were staying in chalet numbers 3 & 9:
3 - mosquito nets provided, old fridge and old oven but excellent hot shower!
9 - no mosquito nets provided, brand new fridge and brand new oven, shower luke warm but ok.

We really think that the tap water should be potable, not sure what the 20litres of water outside each room were for(?) definitely not drinkable - yellow in colour!

We would really have liked the rooms (booked at the same time) to have been closer together, especially as you cannot walk around the accommodation at night (we saw hyenas on the roads between the chalets!)

I would not recommend the game drive, much better to drive yourself around - you will have much more time - 2.5 hours sounds a long time in a game drive, but we actually saw very little compared to driving 8 hours in our own vehicle.

Otherwise, we were very impressed and the park animals were outstanding!

Thanks go to everyone involved.

Nselweni tent camp
For tented accomodation, this was outstanding. My only "complaint" was that staff left one of teh deck chairs not properly under cover one day, so it got wet in the rain. Service was excellent, tent etc was clean, everything worked.

Time Ezemvelo woke up
The park is lovely but the service from the reception staff is terrible and they seem very disorganised. They couldn't find our booking, sent us to a tent which is being renovated and where workmen are living, looked dumbfounded and sent us to Masinda Lodge. This was a bonus for us, but I wonder what would have happened if the Lodge was occupied? We had driven from Durban and seemed to take them by surprise. I will always recommend Hluhluwe Umfolozi, but the level of staff training and competence is dreadful, and - though they are renovating - the gardens at Hluhluwe are have deteriorated, and linen is old, and there is a general sense that both the resorts are running down. The staff seem unaware that they are part of the hospitality industry, and I feel ashamed when most of the guests are foreign. They must think we have very low standards! Still, I would go back because the bush is lovely.

Umfolozi
Our cute 2 bedroom cottage situated on the fore front of the Mpila camp was a view on its own. Looking straight over the Black Umfolozi river and miles beyond set the stage for a beautiful holiday with my fiance. Our rooms were always maintained by staff and service was never lacking. A beautiful game drive had us see the big five,Lion,Elephant,Buffalo, leopard and also the notorious Black Rhino. All in all a beautiful holiday and a must see holiday destination for all at an affordable rate.

Thank you Accommodation Direct and the Hluhluwe Umfolozi. We will definitely be going back

Over all a good Holiday
A few problems at check in, but it was dealt with fairly quickly and the reception staff were very accommodating. The only problem i saw and think it needs to be dealt with, is that after our night game drive, we were all dropped off at the reception at 8:30pm, and had to walk back to our chalets (even though we had been told not to walk around after dark for safty reasons). About a minute after we had got back to our chalet a leopard came past our front door. as we had a small child with us i believe we should have all been dropped off at our respective accommodation.
Truly it was a memorable holiday and would do it again, and would recommend it to others.
Many thanks

Mpila stay
Good few days spent at Mpila.

The roads are in a poor state; where does the daily conservation fee go?

Wonderful stay at Mfolozi
A lovely typical bushveld camp.
Our accom at Mpila was above average.
I recommend it to the budget conscious game viewer.
Although the reserve was awfully dry, we managed to see everything except leopard.
The bird life was very good.
I also trecommend a stay for the min of 3 nights.

Imfolozi Safari Tent
Location lovely.
All we needed was supplied, per the published guidelines.
Accommodation and fittings were shabby with makeshift repairs. Some electrical connections looked suspicious, and I doubt if it would pass an inspection.
Would have been better value for money if properly maintained.

Stay at Masinda Lodge
Our stay at Masinda Lodge was awesome. The wildlife around the lodge added to the feeling of being in the open, love it. The accommodations were good except the place needs fumigated due to all the roaches and ants. We feel more staff need to be placed there to help with the cleaning.
Frans, the manger/cook, was exceptional. We feel he went above and beyond to help us.

Will come back!!!
