Sakabula Golf Club

Sakabula Golf Club

Sakabula Golf Club, situated in the KwaZulu Natal Midlands, is an 18 hole, par 73 course consisting of two very distinct and different 9 holes. Due to the topography of the land, the first 9 traverses an undulating valley providing breathtaking scenic views over the Drakensberg Range. The second 9 holes wind along a stunning natural watercourse and wetland area with numerous dams. The two 9s are so interestingly different in character and challenges that the golfer can experience what normally could only be found on two different golf courses.

The course was opened for play in May 1997 and during the past eight years the course has matured into a wonderful country golf club that provides a real test of golf in a relaxed and friendly, rural environment. Its location, just 15 minutes from Pietermaritzburg, 60 minutes from Central Durban and 45 minutes from Mooi River, makes it readily accessible to golfers from all over KwaZulu Natal. The course is fully fenced and offers security to golfers. There are no caddies at Sakabula but there are 30 motorised golf carts available for rental for those who wish to conserve their energy for the swing of the club.

Sakabula Golf Club has several interesting features including a large indigenous paperback thorn tree that stands on the 14th green - (yes you do get relief). The long 500 metre par 5 at the 5th hole, all uphill, is considered a real test of stamina by many golfers. The 10th hole tee start is managed by a traffic light that is manually switched back to green by the golfer as he clears the area that was unsighted from the tee box.

he country style clubhouse with its warm and friendly ambiance has panoramic views over the golf course from the attractive verandah area. A special feature is the fact that the 1 st , the 9 th , the 10 th and the 18 th tee boxes can all be easily reached, from the clubhouse. The clubhouse provides a substantive lounge incorporating the golf registration area and the bar, with an area of the verandah enclosed for protection from the wind, rain - and the occasional golf ball.

During winter evenings members and visitors can warm themselves in front of the large log fire, which creates a wonderful warm and friendly atmosphere.

Change room facilities are provided for both gentlemen and lady golfers. Towels are not provided so please bring your own.

Dave Jones is the club manager and is always available to answer questions and to assist you with membership and other club related queries, while Gerda Fielding is in the office to handle all financial matters.
