Wagendrift Chalet is located along one of the most picturesque areas in the Drakensburg. Nestled in a tranquil valley just a few km’s outside of Estcourt this area has become a popular destination for holiday makers who are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and experience some of nature in this relaxed setting.

The Wagendrift area is steeped in rich history which dates back to the times of the dinosaurs. As you look around this magnificent landscape you can clearly imagine dinosaurs roaming freely against the backdrop of these majestic mountains that are world famous for their size, beauty and the wide variety of wild life which lives here.

Wagendrift was discovered to have been a stone age site with remains dating back to 1300 A.D. This area is South Africa’s first stone age settlement.

Many of the activities center around the dam. Boating, water-skiing and sailing are popular pastimes. Wagendrift dam is a popular destination for avid freshwater fishermen. Bass, eel, and carp are just some of the fishy delights you can enjoy.

You can hike along a pipeline furrows which are over a hundred years old while absorbing the beauty of the fossilized trees lining the walk. The hike is a gentle 3km’s of unspoilt natural beauty. The nearby Moor park nature reserve means that this area is also full of wildlife like zebra’s and antelope. For avid birdwatchers there is a wide variety of birds worth looking out for. The Blue and Black eagles are a just some of the birds you can expect to see in this protected sanctuary.

Accommodation at Wagendrift Chalet's consist of:

One fully furnished chalet which sleeps four or guests could stay in the camp or caravan sites which are fully equipped with plug points and convenient ablution blocks. There is also a Youth Centre which caters for educational groups and can sleep 80 students and supervisors. Wagendrift Chalet’s are amongst one of the most beautiful getaway destinations in the area.
