"The Umlalazi Nature Rerserve is an ideal destination for any nature lover. It has the coastal forest with its interesting birdlife, the red duikers and red squirrel, the nearby beach front and the Mangrove swamp with its Mudskippers, Mangrove and Fiddler crabs. The Chalets are very comfortable although rather small for more than 2 people. They are all equipped with DSTV albeit limited. Nearby Mtunzini has a few nice restaurants and places of interest. We visited John Dunn's grave at Emolweni as wel as the Fort Nongqayi museum in Eshowe. We met some very keen birders there who raved about the birdlife at Umlalazi as well as other nearby places worth visiting. We travelled via Volksrust, Utrecht and Vryheid and found the trip rather long (8 hours) because there were quite a few roadworks causing a delay."
