Cape Vidal

Established in a protected maritime bay in the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park is the splendid maritime resort, Cape Vidal.

With its rocky outcrops and shallow pools for snorkeling, untouched shorelines for exploring the interesting wetlands and fame for sport fishing, this wealthy coastal woodland treasure on the shores of Lake Bhangazi is a delight.

Being a Coastal Resort, Cape Vidal holds the unusual characteristic of having the best of land and sea, allowing visitors a gateway to both the aquatic creatures of the Indian Ocean coast and wildlife of the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park. Guests have the opportunity to view an abundance of impressive bird life, antelope, hippos, crocodiles, buffalo, elephants as well as marlin, dolphin, migrating humpback whales on their way to calve in the hot waters off the Mozambique coast and the loggerheads and leather back turtles in the summertime as they head onto the coastline to place their eggs.

The beaches provide safe swimming areas for guests that want to soak up the sun and bathe. As deep sea and spear fishing are amongst the favorite activities, selected launch site for ski boats have been provided at Cape Vidal’s protected bay. Guided hiking paths around the fascinating wetlands and the Lake Bhangazi shoreline as well as the site of the Dorothea shipwreck allow the adventurer’s to investigate this fascinating magnificent resort. All in all Cape Vidal is a wonderful family destination.

The beautiful bay of Cape Vidal offers a wide range of accommodation uniquely set in the lush coastal dunes.

The Cape Vidal Camp highlights 18 five-bed and 11 eight-bed fully equipped log cabins with three and two bedrooms, fully fitted kitchens, bathrooms, and lounge/dining rooms with barbecue’s.

In addition the camp includes one eight-bed, two 12-bed, one 14-bed and one 20-bed group accommodation cabins with dormitory rooms, a kitchen, bathroom and a lounge/ dining room with camping and barbecue facilities. Close to the breathtaking shoreline, are 50 campsites hidden in the dune forest, both tents and caravans are accommodated with cold-water taps and barbecues. Hot and cold running water, flush toilets, showers, baths, basins, laundry and dish washing facilities are provided at three modern ablutions. For the guests convenience fuel and a shop is provided.

Just 10 km from the camp is the luxurious Bhangazi Bush Lodge, sleeping eight guests in four fully equipped self-catering thatched units. The two bed en-suite units are linked to the main lounge and viewing deck by a wooden boardwalk.

A dining area and fully equipped kitchen in which to cook and prepare tasty meals is presented and the camp is serviced on a daily basis.

Special Precautions:

Cape Vidal is a malaria area and special precautions are necessary.

The nearest town which has a full range of services is Mtubatuba which is 60 kms away.

How to get to Cape Vidal:

At the entrance to St Lucia village turn left at the T junction and take the road that goes past the Crocodile Centre to the Cape Vidal entrance gate. Travel on the new tar road for 35 kms to Cape Vidal camp.

Pets are not permitted at Reserve.

Motorcycles are not permitted in the reserve.

No vehicles are allowed on the beach except official vehicles and those of tour operators that have a permit to do so.
