Cape Vidal Camp Reviews

Simple wooden beach shack accommodation
Very adequate accommodation for those who enjoy the real beach holiday: outdoor living, days on the beach, braaiing, etc. Nothing fancy, but comfortable enough.

Weekend at Vidal
The stay at the log cabins was very nice could maybe just add a radio in the house if possible for when the weather is poor. Facilities are nice could maybe just look at adding a door to the shower but it was very nice even if the weather did not help much.

Good value for money
Had a wonderful stay. Camp staff friendly. So many animals and birdlife were viewed, we were not disappointed. Just sorry we never got to see the leopards! Accommodation comfortable, had a friend flying in the house at night but that is to be expected given the location.

Cape Vidal (Jan 2013) - an amazing place to get away and relax
Before leaving for Cape Vidal we noticed a number of poor reviews on the internet and were thus a bit skeptical about the Cabin Accommodation (and we entirely over packed), but it seems that many of the issues that were raised have been addressed. The staff were friendly and courteous, the Cabins were well equipped and cleaned daily, where each room had its own fan (so no need to take one with). The beds and linen were comfortable and clean and the furniture, although outdated somewhat were good enough for a beach side holiday. The netting on the windows was a great idea as it prevented the monkeys entering the house (and also the numerous insects). Cape Vidal itself is a little piece of heaven. The snorkeling was absolutely fantastic, most of time was filled with long, sunny days on the beach, which was clean and well managed and for those odd days that were rainy we went on a game drive and a visit to the town of Saint Lucia and the nearby butterfly park. We were thoroughly impressed with how clean the park was. The venues, bathrooms etc in the park were also very well maintained. All in all, it was a great vacation, we would definitely go back.

Brilliant Stay
Our stay in 8 sleepers cabin was excellent. The accommodation was comfortable and spacious. Cape vidal is a most interesting place. We saw plenty of wildlife, even coming close to the cabin, the Game Drives are fantastic. We will be back.

Room for improvement
Cape Vidal was amazing. The sitution of the camp, te layout, location of the cabins and beach were fantastic.
Most importantly something needs to be done about the monkeys. They were out of control, taking goods, not only food from our children's hands (aged 4 and 6 yrs) one monkey came into our cabin more than once while we were in the cabin and ws not at all afraid of us when we tried to chase it.

The standard of cleaning was a little below par. Dusty walls, and the toilet could use either a deep clean or stronger detergent. Having said this the cleaning lady, Grace was lovely. Friendly and helpful. The dish cloths needed to be replaced. (more like rags)

Overall we had a lovely holiday and will be back in December next year.

One last comment, the shop could do with more stock. As Cape Vidal Camp is so remote it would be useful to have access to more goods.

The staff at the gate, in the shop and in general were very pleasant and helpful.

All in all a great place for a family holiday.

Cape Vidal Admin
Hi...we loved our stay at Cape Vidal. Our only problem was when we tried to leave, we were stopped at the gate and told that we had not paid. We had paid a month earlier!!!! We found this to be very inconvenient and irritating that the admin was so shoddy! Please liase with the camp properly! Let them know and feed the info to all the required parties. The guard got aggressive with us, we were in a rush to make a flight at King Shaka and did not have 30 minutes to waste arguing about payments!!!

cape vidal awesome but chalets below standard
To whom it may concern.
I arrived back yesterday from a superb 5 nights in Cape Vidal. We stayed in Kudu chalet which I think is in the bhangazi complex although at the entrance it says the fishing cabins.
We had a really awesome time and were thoroughly impressed with the state of the beach and the general areas as well as some of the new toilets at the hides. However we were seriously disappointed at the state of the cabin. There were several problems,

• many of the mosquito/monkey netting were torn,
• the trellidoor had no key for it
• many windows didn’t open as the levers were broken.
• We also didn’t have a kettle and had to boil water on the stove for the first 2 mornings and then our housekeeper lent us the housekeeping kettle.
• The couch and dining chair cushions were in a really sorry state. There were stains all over them, some were torn, some didn’t fit properly and one dining chair had foam but no cover.
• Also the tiles just outside the shower were broken, some had fallen off and others were about to fall off,
• there was a broken table outside just left there, unusable, and
• One of our towels had holes in it
• Also there were many areas that needed a good varnish.

In short the cabin was poorly maintained.

I have visited Cape vidal many years ago and I was quite disappointed to see how little maintenance had been done on our cabin on this visit. I remember the cabins being well maintained on my last visit.

Another thing to note is that no one we asked could tell us which animals were in the reserve or provide a map of the reserve. It would really be a great thing if when you checked in you were given a map of the reserve and cape vidal complex with a list of animals in the reserve.
i couldn't seem to attach my photos but i've sent them via mail to customer care email

I would really appreciate a response to my feedback.
Many thanks
Ursula

Cape Vidal
We had a great stay at Cape Vidal despite it raining and the wind blowing everyday. The accommodation is basic and although not 5 star it was more than suitable for us , including 2 very busy toddlers.Usually the accommodation shows its defects in situations like this but we were never frustrated. The braai areas are very unlevel and should be attended to. At night time it can be dangerous.
A big positive is the amazing service we received. Very friendly and proffessional.

In spite of
The shop could have better supplies i.e milk, bread and newspapers. Staff were very friendly but often failed to pass on necessary info i.e that should you require to leave the camp to top up your supplies that you require a pass out disc. Very annoying when they insist that you drive the 5km back to the office to obtain this. I thought that the cabins were quite expensive for the level of comfort. In spite of these observations we had a really enjoyable stay because of its proximity to the beach, the weather and the wild animals around at night added to the atmosphere.

Clean and Adequate
The improvements that are being carried out at the park indicate that the up keep and maintenance are well attended to. Our accomodation was clean and adequate. We enjoyed the Game Viewing and the roads and routes are in good shape with a large selection of game. A recommend above the Umfolozi Park with its bad roads.

Toilet need attention
Hi,

We had a lovely holiday, and appreciate what you do to preserve the environment.
The toilet in our cabin (no 15), was however wobbly, and we were afraid that it will fall over when sitting on it. And one tile in the bathroom was broken.

Cape Vidal Log Cabins
This camp is in a fantastic location. The cabin we stayed in was a little shabby and the home for several colonies of bats which come with their own special smell. The monkeys removed a pane of glass and got in to steal food. The newer cabins have mesh on all the windows so ask for one of these. Staff were very helpful.

Excellent Weekend
My family and I received a very warm welcome at the gates and reception. The staff are pleasant and very helpful. The accommodation was comfortable and my stay was enjoyable even my 9 month old daughter had a fun time. The beach is safe, clean, beautiful and the fishing is great. I will definitely be going back soon. Well done Cape Vidal....

Nice at a price!
Cape Vidal is a beautiful natural area. However more should be done to keep the areas clean around the cabins. We are non smokers and the area around the cabin and braai area were littered with sigarette buds. A sign and stiff penalties might work.
The cleaners should also remove their brooms and cleaning materials as it spoils the "natural" experience of the bush.
The interior of the cabins are run down and the bedding should be replaced regularly. The roof fans in our cabin were delapidated. At the price we paid per night one expect a better service.
The booking experience was a nightmare trough "Accommodation Direct". The service was poor and because of their delay I was forced to take a 8 bed cabin (2 adults and 1 baby. I had a 4 bed cabin lined up but the agent took several days to come back to me. I was overcharged and had to contact them again to rectify the mistake. After this the wrong days were booked. Once again I had to rectify it.

Sreat but there was a huge mix up with our booking
Our stay at Cape Vidal was great but there was a huge mix up with our booking. I had booked 2 chalets, each with a separate reference number, and separate payments were made for each chalet. However, when we arrived at Vidal on 27 March, only one chalet had been allocated to us. The office staff seemed completely disinterested and incapable of dealing with the problem , and I feel we would have had to cancel our holiday and go home had it not been for Leo, the camp manager. He managed to sort things out and allocated us a chalet that was still under renovation.
In future it might be a good idea to make sure that a chalet has been allocated to each reference number.

Otherwise we had a good holiday.

Horrible Experience !!!!!!
For us this was a first time stay-over at Vidal. We arrived on Saturday 20/03/2010 and had confirmation to stay at Log Cabin no.14. During registration we were instructed to stay at No.2 as a result of the new booking system which no longer allocates a number....

After we entered no.2, I soon discovered funny noises up in the roof which never stopped along with a bad smell internal and external to this unit. During the early mornings this got worse. Not able to sleep, I did some investigation and discovered that a large bat colony was housing in the roof. The terrible smell and noise never stops!!!

This cabin condition is not happening over night and how can they allow to book guests into such a unit knowing these conditions?

After planning for a memorable time with my family, this weekend turned out into a disaster!!

We do expect compensation for this bad experience.

Cape Vidal
We found the accommodation liveable but in dire need of renovating. The bathroom floor tiles were coming loose, there was mildew in the shower and the blankets, although had no holes, need to be replaced as they were very thin and scratchy. The kitchen utensils were also a very limited. The setting is lovely and well placed, within easy access to the beach and snorkeling was great.
