Add to that the interesting history of the vessel and the uniqueness of this yacht cannot be overstated.
Educational Charters
Every school wants to show it students the workings of one of the biggest commercial engines and job suppliers in the region. It is important from a career aspect as well as in respect of the geographic, economic, political, social, environmental and tourism aspects of their education. Port sail collaborates with the National Ports Authority (NPA), the UNIZUL Science Centre, KZN Wildlife and the Bird Guides with respect to such tours.
For parties of up to 80 students we can do the following program:
40 students visit the Science centre for 2 hours
40 students go to the small craft harbour where they split up into 2 groups of 20
20 students board the yacht Sweet Waters while the other 20 students view the Portnet Video at a venue in th small craft harbour .
These two groups swap over when the yacht returns.
Meanwhile the other group of 40 leave the science centre to do the harbour cruise etc.
The harbour tour lasts one hour and covers the small craft harbour containing local and visiting yachts and passenger vessels, the Pilot Boat, Tugs, Bunker barge, Dredger and survey craft. Then it is out into the main channel showing the harbour entrance, the sanctuary area, Naval Island, the Casuarinas, the bunker berth and tanks, Control towers, the biggest coal exporting and also the biggest wood exporting terminals in the world.
Sighting of Fish eagles and dolphins is a common occurrence, The trip is accompanied by an entertaining running commentary. The trip is confined to the harbour and does not go out to sea so the chances of getting seasick are virtually entirely eliminated.
The vessels used are licensed as passenger vessels with the Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) and are covered by insurances including passenger liability and third party cover. Nonetheless your charter ticket still contains the standard Lloyds indemnity. The capital costs (about 3,5 mil) as well as the survey and licensing costs far exceed that of the bus transport used to get to Richards Bay, yet our prices are normally far less than the transport costs for getting to Richards bay.
What to wear
