Tracks Only Trails and Training was conceived in 1996 out of a passion for horses and the African bush. We started off offering educational horse rides and trails and it has now developed into a multifaceted business. However our old ethos remains - the emphasis is still on personalized groups and each person's requirements are our main priority. We are still a personal family business. We tailor make all our activities for each individual.

SAFARIS:

Tracks Only Safaris operate in 15 000 hectares (37 000acres) of wild untamed bush amidst magnificent scenery. We are situated in the Umkomazi Valley which is on the Southern tip of the African continent in the country of South Africa. We are an hour west of Durban airport and 40 minutes south of Pietermaritzburg airport. We are in the province of Kwazulu Natal.

TERAIN:

Most of the game reserve lies within the Umkomazi valley, between magnificent sandstone cliffs with savannah plateaus on either side. Vegetation varies from thornveld bush to riverine forest. The mighty Umkomazi River, famous for its gruelling canoe marathon, roars through the valley.

TIME OF YEAR:

Short half day or day rides are taken all year round. We operate our overnight safaris in the cooler months from April to December. These vary from one to five days and are tailor-made to suit each party's requirements.

HORSES:

Our horses are our friends and are treated as such. They vary from thorough-breds crosses to boerperd type. Due to the harsh terrain, pure thorough-breds are unsuitable. Horses vary between 16 and 14 hands. They are hardy, surefooted and very good-natured. Mark makes every effort to match each rider to his faithful stead according to the rider's ability.

TACK:

Riders have the choice of English style or McLennan type bush saddles all saddles are equipped with saddle bags and pegging strings.
