Off-Road Adventures

Based in the Southern Drakensberg, we specialise in 4x4 and adventure quad trails via Sani Pass in Lesotho for both the novice and experienced. In the past we used to take people up Sani Pass into Lesotho on quads but since the advent of construction on the Sani Pass Road (for the supposed tarring of Sani Pass) it started to become very dangerous, so we moved our operation up to the top of Sani Pass where we explore the Lesotho Highlands on quads.

How it works: in short

We meet you the Himeville Hotel (5kms from Underberg) and take you up Sani Pass in 4x4's and 4x4 taxi's! An adventurous trip on its own with the most spectacular views and cuttings you will ever see. Or drive up in your own 4x4!! - see self drive option under "Our Tours". Once we are at the top you refresh yourselves at the famous Highest Pub in Africa and then onto the quads to explore the "moon landscape" of Lesotho.

The quad tour is another adventure to top the first! Our trained guides will provide you with Helmets and gloves and the quads are easy to ride fully automatic 250cc and 300cc. You are given tuition so even the most inexperienced person will be able to ride and then you head out over the wide open, breathtaking views, crater like escarpment, icy streams, rocky terrain and an experience you will never forget. We are not kidding, the views will BLOW YOUR MIND!! Just ask to go to the Dragon's catwalk on the "Saddle trail"

OUR TOURS

6 - 7 hour Sani Pass tour (4x4 and quad combo)

The spectacular Sani Pass is the third highest gravel road pass in the world, topping 2874m. In summer months we depart in 4x4 vehicles at 8am or 9am and in winter 9h00am from Underberg/Himeville. It is a 2 hour (40km) scenic tour to Sani Top Chalet, filled with excitement, picturesque views and fresh mountain air as we climb from 1600m, to the Highest Pub in Africa at 2874m. After the pitstop we saddle up the quads and do the adventurous

Sani Pass in 4x4 plus a fun ride around Sani Top, 8km for 30min

A very easy ride with minor river crossings and no tecnical obstacles, but if the group ask for a few bumps and jumps then you'll get it! An affordable fun ride for the family. Minimum rider age is 14 and only groups of 4 and more. (not all have to ride quads, granny can come along in the 4x4 and sip gluwein at the pub).

Sani Pass in 4x4 plus Saddle lookout trail on quads, 14km for 60min - topping 3000m. A bit tecnical but novice riders do make it with a few laughs ;-) the views are guaranteed to blow your mind!!! That will require a 3min walk to stand on the Dragons catwalk! With sheer cliffs towering behind you and a sea of mountains beneath you. Make sure your camera is fully charged with enough memory.

Sani Pass in 4x4 plus Sani River trail on quads, 20km for 90min

Some technical stuff with river crossings, fine for the novice and experienced, we follow the Maluti Mountains, an awesome trail with slow tracks to the end of the river and fast open road on the way back to the pub.

Sani Pass in 4x4 plus quad tour to Black Mountain, 32km for 90min

Open road into Lesotho, topping 3200m above sea level. Fine for novice and experienced, depending on your riding speed as we stay on the main road.

All are a fun, adrenaline pumping experience. Enjoy a few drinks and lunch after the tour while soaking up the awesome surrounding mountains, overlooking KwaZulu Natal down below. The total distance is a scenic 80km of twists and turns as we snake up and down the pass, and back to Underberg in 4x4's and 14km, 20km or 32km on quads (the quad tour does not sound like much, but believe me, it's a good workout). Passports are essential as we depart South Africa and enter Lesotho and back.

Self-drive option (with your own vehicle)

Drive up Sani Pass in your own 4x4 vehicle and meet us at the top. You then have a option of riding quads to the Saddle viewpoint (60min) which is a 14km trip, or the adventurous Sani River trail (90min) which is 20km, or to Black Mountain Pass (90min) which is a 32km trip.

Warm jacket and clothing for Sani Pass tour (summer and winter)

Lesotho overnight tour

If you wish to experience the best of both worlds, then this is it!. Our itinerary in short: Depart from Himeville Hotel at 10am in summer and 9am in winter to arrive 12pm to 1pm for lunch, unpack luggage and then onto the quads. First we head for the Saddle to take a stroll to the Dragon's catwalk with dwarfed mountains beneath us and towering cliffs behind us, topping 3000m above sealevel, then we ride towards our secret spot along dry craters in winter which turns into strange looking ponds in the rainy season for a cliff-hanger view as we look down onto Sani Pass beneath us and to calm down, we take a leisurely ride along the Sani River and speed it up a bit as we head back to the pub on the main road late afternoon. Enjoy a relaxing shower while a lovely dinner is being prepared for 7pm. Snuggle up in a warm bed to get going again at 7am for breakfast. Depart 8am - 9am to get back in Himeville by 10h30am. Suitable for ages 16 - approx 70, novice and experienced
